The talented chef has been working in the family business Lurgbauer, which was opened by his parents back in 1989, for over a decade and now runs the entire establishment. Here, Maximilian showcases his cuisine which is straightforward yet sophisticated, as the restaurant’s “Lurg 1” menu shows. On this menu, each dish revolves around regional meat from Aberdeen Angus ox and Lurgbauer pasture calf.

On restaurant Lurgbauer’s menu, beef specialties are the focal point. Here, chef Leodolter reinterprets and re-invents these classics into thrilling culinary delights. Expect Lurgbauer classics such as the famed beef soup, boiled beef, and the semolina casserole. However, there’s also a modest yet outstanding selection of vegetarian dishes to choose from. On the wine list, you’ll only find domestic labels from Austria’s most important wineries and vintners. Expect mainly white wines from Styria and Lower Austria, as well as reds from Burgenland. Non-alcoholic options include home-produced seasonal juices. Think of pear blends, naturally cloudy apple juice, and homemade verjus.

Restaurant Lurgbauer’s region is probably best known for the nearby Mariazell Basilica (7 km), which is one of Europe’s most visited shrines. If you’re looking for adventure, the area’s countryside has a lot to offer. It’s the perfect place for hiking and mountaineering expeditions. In addition, you can embark on a variety of cycling and mountain biking tours in summer. Surrounded by the magical atmosphere of Advent at Mariazell, the area becomes a wonderful winterland, especially around Christmas. During this season, you can also enjoy the nearby winter hiking paths, the cross-country ski routes, as well as the two small ski areas (Gemeindealpe Mitterbach and Bürgeralpe Mariazell).

Restaurant Lurgbauer lies in a historic farmhouse, featuring four romantic rooms. The rooms are elegantly renovated and decorated with modern elements such as glass walls or designer fittings in the bathrooms. Each guest room is equipped with a spacious shower or bathtub. One room even offers a sauna and a bathtub with a panoramic view. It’s no surprise that the farmhouse was awarded 4 Flowers, the highest possible quality rating. In addition, you can also book the “Lurgbauer Feldkasten” chalet. This charming 250-year-old building was renovated and features a sauna made from antique wood, as well as a luxurious designer bathtub.
