Women in Hospitality: perseverance, passion, and invisible barriers
The hospitality industry is a dynamic and demanding world where women often face challenges that go beyond long shifts and physical exertion. Stereotypes, the struggle to balance career and personal life, and the constant need to prove their worth are all part of their journey. Yet, with passion and perseverance, they continue to demonstrate that there are no limits in this industry.
In March, a month in which women celebrate two important holidays, we interviewed two members of JRE-Slovenia.
What has been the biggest challenge in your career as a woman, and how did you overcome it?
Nina Bratovž, JB restavracija: One of the biggest challenges was breaking into an environment dominated by men and proving my abilities. I overcame it through constant professionalism, self-confidence, and perseverance. Instead of focusing on prejudices, I directed my energy toward achieving results, which gradually dispelled any skepticism.
Nina Čarman, Danilo: I believe that one of the biggest challenges women face is definitely recognition, especially in a profession dominated by men. With perseverance and hard work, women prove their important role, overcome prejudices, and set an example for future generations.

How do you balance your personal and professional life as a mother?
Nina Bratovž, JB restavracija: The key lies in good organization, setting priorities, and adapting to the ever-changing balance every day. It is important to have a supportive partner and to establish realistic expectations for both work and family. Communication and the ability to say “no” are also crucial. Over time, I’ve learned that saying “no” is not a weakness but a luxury, even a necessity.
Nina Čarman, Danilo: Balancing work and quality time with children is a challenge every mother faces. It is very important to have a supportive partner who understands the nature of the profession and helps with daily obligations. Over time, I have realized that setting priorities is crucial, and that flexibility is essential in this line of work.
First and foremost, believe in yourself and your goals, and be persistent. It is also important not to forget about yourself.
