Wine Menu of the Year 2014

Floh’s cuisine

Chef Josef Floh embraces the “slow food” philosophy like no other. At restaurant Floh, he re-imagines regional ingredients and turns them into creative culinary creations. From fully vegetarian dishes to fish and meat: he only works with locally-sourced products, whether it be native or seemingly exotic produce and spices. At the heart of Floh’s menu are ancient vegetables, mountain trout, grain variants, and unconventional kinds of animal meats. The wine list is just as remarkable as its menu. In 2014, chef Josef Floh received the “Wine Menu of the Year” award from Gault Millau. The spectacular selection includes Bordeaux in larger bottles, the finest Burgundies, and German Rieslings. A dream come true for anyone who doesn’t want to settle for a recent vintage.

Langenlebarn & surroundings

Langenlebarn sits right on the edge of river Danube and the Tullnerfeld (Tullner Basin), a gravel area in Lower Austria. Although it’s theoretically possible to cycle your way to Vienna, a ride to the nearby Tulln area might be more enjoyable. Here, you can do plenty of historical sightseeing, such as visiting a Roman tower, a Romanesque charnel house, and the Minorite church. The Vienna Woods are also nearby and ideal for hiking and exploring. For learning more about rare fruits and ancient vegetables, you can visit “Noah’s Ark” association in Schiltern. Here, you can wander the wonderful garden and shop for seeds and plants. If you’re looking for a hotel, we recommend the guest house in Langenlebarn.
